Ranch Staff

The information on this page relates to the 2011 ranch season.  Updated information about the 2012 ranch staff will be posted here as soon as staffing decisions are made by the American Alpine Club.

Robert Montague — Ranch Manager

Robert served as Assistant Manager of the Climbers’ Ranch in 2010 before being named Manager in January, 2011. He received his B.A. in Business from The Evergreen State College in Washington and studied architecture at Savannah College of Art and Design, including courses in historic preservation–a welcome and useful foundation for care of the structures at the Climbers Ranch. Robert also holds A.M.G.A. climbing guide certification and has guided for both Alpine Ascents International and Rainier Mountaineering on Mt. Rainier (60+ times, five routes) and Denali (four times). He led a trip to Aconcagua in Argentina, and was also a member of an expedition to Pico de Orizaba, Mexico’s highest peak. Robert, his wife Jenny, and daughter Luca currently reside in Bozeman, MT where he works with the Ski Patrol at Big Sky Resort.

Noah Besen — Intern
Noah Besen, from Andover, Massachusetts goes to school at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver pursuing an arts degree.  He hopes to eventually be a journalist and has an avid interest in history, geography and current global affairs.  He has been a climber since he was 13 and has traveled all over the U.S. and Canada climbing in Utah, Colorado, Wyoming, Washington, British Columbia, and all over the northeast.  A recent NOLS mountaineering school graduate, he is excited to expand on his new high mountain skills.

Charlie Yates — Maintenance Technician

A Massachusetts native, Charlie has been living in Olympia, Washington for 20 years, and has been climbing in the Cascades and Olympics since he got there. He met Robert Montague through the “House of Pain”, a notorious climbing clique in Olympia. A lecturer and field instructor for the Mountaineers climbing club, Charlie has also guided climbers on Mt. Rainier for one season with RMI. He brings extensive construction and maintenance experience to the Climber’s Ranch, and will be performing critical repairs and maintenance on the Ranch’sbuildings, including the historic Dining Hall. This will be his first season in the Tetons.

Casey McCoy — Intern

Casey McCoy hails from Camp Hill, Pennsylvania. He is currently attending DeSales University in Allentown, Pennsylvania working on a Computer Science degree with a concentration in Digital Art. After school, he hopes to be working in a computer science field, primarily concentrating on graphic design. Casey has been climbing off and on at his local climbing gym, the Climbnasium, since he was young. His love of the mountains and climbing came from trips to the Adirondacks where he spent time backpacking through the snow. He is very excited to get out west this summer and explore the Tetons and all they have to offer.
